The Mind is a Tool: What our Parents Couldn’t Explain

Mind is a toolDoting parents often say to their children, “you can do anything you put your mind to”.  Yet many don’t realize, there in the old adage lies a more profound message. The mind holds a unique power, a power to create, and learning how to use it is by far the most important thing you’ll ever learn.

Thoughts are Things

The chatter and incessant noise in our head are unresolved issues we replay over and over again unconsciously searching for a resolution. We must reverse this awful affect on our mind by deliberately reprograming our thought patterns. This is the root to discovering our true power, a power that will lead us toward an inevitably more prosperous and happier existence.

Thoughts are things that give life. In other words, thoughts are so powerful, they can manifest into physical experiences. In Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill says, “Our brains become magnetized with the dominating thought which we hold in our minds, these “magnets” attract to us the forces, the people, the circumstances of life which harmonized with the nature of your dominating thoughts”. Our phenomenal ability to do this goes massively unrecognized.

The “magnets” Hill speak of are also known as the Law of Attraction. The notion that thoughts are things means they emanate a vibration that is activated by our corresponding emotion. This vibration attracts to us the equivalent of what we consistently think about. Thoughts are directly connected to our emotions. When we think about something positive, we feel happy; adversely when we think of something negative, we feel sad. Our dominate experience in life is a reflection of our dominate thought pattern.

Our emotions serve as antennae’s that guide us toward specific paths in accordance with our dominate thoughts, attracting along the way – people, experiences and situations that match our own positive or negative thought vibrations. This happens whether we are conscious of it or not. This power of creation is non-bias because we certainly are what we think. It is true that the very essence of a single thought can be steered toward the outcome of our choice.

Get in Harmony

We can live a life of happiness, peace, prosperity and wealth if we learn how to align our thoughts with the things we want. It’s not about working hard to become successful. It’s about understanding that when thought is in harmony with emotion, it sends off a signal that attracts desired circumstances. According to Esther and Jerry Hicks in ‘Money, and The Law of Attraction’, “The pivoting process is simply: whenever you recognize that you are feeling negative emotion, the obvious thing for you to do is stop and say, I’m feeling negative emotion, which means I am not in harmony with something that I want. You have to begin telling the story of your life as you now want it to be and discontinue the tales of how it has been or of how it is.”

In other words, when we want something, we must behave as if we already have it. We must embody it, become it, see it, feel it and most importantly – believe it. Thought and emotion are the two elements of power that when combined, undoubtedly manifest desires. In order to get into alignment, consciously filter out negative thoughts and choose thoughts that feel good. This is the magic key that turn dreams into reality.

Next time we tell our children, “you can do anything you put your mind to”, let’s help them truly understand the power they possess so they can live their best lives – and because – they will one day become parents too.
